A player that needs little introduction, this former Real Madrid full back joined the Ewood Park club on a free transfer in August 2009, signing a two-year deal.

Salgado started his professional career with Celta Vigo where he enjoyed a four year spell, then until 1999 he made an €11m move to Real Madrid immediately making an impression as the Madrid club won the Champions League that season. The following season he helped Real to their 30th League title.

In a ten year spell at the Bernabéu club, he won four league titles, three Spanish Super Cups, two Champions League titles, the UEFA Super Cup and the Intercontinental Cup. Michel was also capped 53 times for his country.

His Ewood adventure was, by his own admission, slow to get going, but he is now a regular starter and popular member amongst players and fans alike due to his all-action enthusiastic displays.

January 2011 saw him agree a contract extension at least until the summer of 2012.
