He may be waiting for his first taste of the Premier League, but Shane Lowry has already experienced European football, promotion from League One and been within a whisker of featuring in a World Cup.
When Lowry stepped up and coolly slotted a penalty past Juventus keeper Gianluigi Buffon in last summer's Peace Cup final, it was clear he had a feel for continental action.
He followed this up with a substitute appearance in the Europa League against Rapid Vienna.
The Villa reserve star then got the chance to earn valuable League experience by joining Plymouth Argyle on a short-term loan.
A loan spell at Leeds United followed and Lowry was involved in the Elland Road club's push for promotion.
Leeds secured their return to the Championship by beating Bristol Rovers on the final day of the season.
Lowry received a double boost on his return to Villa - a new two-year contract and a call-up to Australia's provisional World Cup squad.
Although he didn't make the final 23, he was still able to join the Socceroos in South Africa.
