Oliver Norwood possesses both the vision and passing accuracy required to be creative in the centre of midfield.
Born in Burnley, Oliver was one of the youngest first-year scholars when taken on in summer 2007. Even then he showed plenty of ability and, according to United’s Under-18s coach Paul McGuinness, had the "ability to change games".
Not only is Norwood an intelligent footballer, but he's combative and never shy to try his luck from distance. His nine goals in 28 Academy appearances in 2008/09 led to a promotion to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Reserves, where he shone throughout 2009/10.
A set-piece
specialist, Oliver signed professional forms with the club in July 2009, and has represented Northern Ireland at under-21 level.
His fine displays have prompted high praise from senior squad manager Nigel Worthington. "The lad is a genius," says Worthington. "He is going to be a very good player. What he can do with the ball from free-kicks is remarkable."
