Ravel Morrison is a supremely gifted talent: a skilful, creative midfielder capable of scoring and making goals.

He can play in wide positions, in the centre of the park, or just behind the main striker. The Wythenshawe youngster uses his skill and unique style of play to draw opponents in before easing past them.

Ravel shot to prominence as a schoolboy in 2008/09 and scored in United's FA Youth Cup defeat to Chelsea in November 2008 while still only 15.

Having signed initially as an Academy first-year scholar in July 2009 before penning professional forms on his 17th birthday, he has developed into a player of prodigious talent and was never fazed by the inevitable step up into the Reserves.

Sir Alex Ferguson, a great believer in the player, promoted Morrison to the number 49 shirt in October, 2010, and brought him on in the closing stages of the Carling Cup win against Wolves for his senior debut.

That brief taste of a packed Old Trafford stood him in good stead for the FA Youth Cup run as he was the main man for Paul McGuinness' trophy-winners. A wonderfully-executed winner against Newcastle was followed by a two-goal show at Anfield and the sight of the confident youngster thumping his badge in front of The Kop as the Reds overturned a two-goal deficit.

Although missing the first leg of the semi-final against Chelsea through suspension after being sent off in a reserve game at Newcastle, he was at his brilliant best in the Old Trafford return - scoring the goal that set United on the way to a 4-0 romp.

The final game of his campaign was the second leg of the final itself, against Sheffield United, and it provided further illustration of his skills. Two expertly-taken goals did not tell the whole story and it's apparent he has the potential to be one of the real stars of his generation.

There is much work still to be done before meeting such lofty expectations, but it is impossible not to be excited about watching his development at Old Trafford and anticipating the impact he is capable of making at first-team level.
