Andy Marshall was charged with offering backup to Brad Friedel for the majority of the 2010-11 campaign, with Brad Guzan loaned out to Hull City.

While the former Norwich and Ipswich stopper didn't make a first team appearance, there's no question he wouldn't have let anyone down if he had been called upon.

His performances in reserve action since his arrival at Villa Park have been of a significantly high quality and his career thus far has shown the 36-year-old to be made of stern stuff.

There's no doubt the influence of Marshall is also one of the major reasons for his stay in B6, with the bubbly goalkeeper an excellent influence in the dressing room.

Marshall is always first to hand out advice to younger players looking for a helping hand.

The shot-stopper will be with Villa until the end of the 2011-12 campaign at least, having penned a new one-year contract in March 2011.

Marshall actually left Villa at the end of the 2009-10 season - and then rejoined a few weeks later.

Marshall put pen to paper on a new deal which takes him up to June 2011.

The solid goalkeeping custodian began his career at Norwich City before enjoying spells at Ipswich Town, Millwall and most recently Coventry City.

He spent three seasons with the Sky Blues before leaving at the end of the 2008-09 campaign.

Marshall also has four caps for England U21s.
