He made considerable development under Steve Bould and made a total of 23 appearances for the Under-18s. He excelled, conceding just three times from February 16 until the end of the season, as the youngsters topped their Academy division.

2008/09
Wojciech put pen to paper on a new long-term contract in September after featuring for the first team in a pre-season friendly against Barnet in July.

He moved into Neil Banfield's Reserve side and made a number of impressive displays throughout the campaign. "I am happy to be making the move up a level of course, and I will continue to do my best and improve. If I get a chance to show I can cope in an even harder environment then I will do it.

"For now I feel ready [for the Reserves]. I have been waiting for my chance to move up and it is here now and I want to be 100 per cent ready to perform for them."

Wojciech made his debut appearance in the first-team squad when he was an unused substitute on May 24 in a Premier League win against Stoke.

2009/10
The 2009/10 campaign was the time when most Arsenal fans first heard the name Wojciech Szczesny. And no wonder: the Polish keeper had an incredible season.

After impressing on his Arsenal debut against West Brom he went on to win a first international cap and turned many a head with his consistently superb displays between the sticks for Brentford.

Such was his impact on loan at Griffin Park that in the final minute of their last game of the season he was substituted to allow the Bees faithful an opportunity to thank their temporary shot-stopper for his match-winning displays.

But it wasn't just fans and pundits who were impressed. "I believe one day he will be the No 1 at Arsenal, certainly," Arsène Wenger told journalists at a press conference in April.
