The 2010/11 campaign was a season to remember for Gary Cahill, whose commanding performances in the heart of Bolton's defence finally resulted in international recognition.
The Sheffield-born star earned his first full cap in September 2010 against Bulgaria before making his full debut against Ghana the following March.
On the domestic scene, Cahill once again fortified his reputation as one of the country's hottest prospects with commanding performances at the heart of Bolton's defence alongside Zat Knight and David Wheater.
The highlight of Cahill's season was when Bolton faced Aston Villa in March 2011, when he bagged a brace against his former club to help Wanderers record a 3-2 win at the Reebok.
The previous season - in 2009/10 season - the former Aston Villa man, who was purchased for a fee of £5m in January 2008, chipped in with an impressive seven goals from defence.
Cahill has shown great mental strength and attitude to recover from a blood clot in his left arm - which resulted in 7 weeks on the sidelines - to return to full fitness and play an important part in Wanderers' run-in in 2009/10.
Prior to joining Wanderers, the central defender came through the ranks at Villa Park. He is best remembered amongst the Aston Villa fans for his superb volleyed goal against city rivals Birmingham in the deby in 2004.
He also had a short spell on loan at Sheffield United in 2007, where he made 16 appearances and scored two goals.
