A powerful midfield all-rounder, Ryan Tunnicliffe likes to tackle, pass and score goals.

He burst onto the Under-18 scene as a schoolboy in the 2008/09 campaign, making 20 appearances for Paul McGuinness' side – and in a number of different positions, often filling in at right-back when needed.

However, his strongest position is in the heart of midfield. A player of obvious passion, grit, determination, and no shortage of natural footballing ability, Ryan has excelled as a key member of McGuinness' team.

His performances were rewarded with a professional contract on 30 December 2009, the same day he turned 17. He's since proved invaluable for the Reserves and has caught the eye with a number of tough-tackling, lung-busting performances.

Tunnicliffe was handed the no.46 shirt ahead of United's FA Cup fifth round tie against Crawley Town in February 2011, the same month he was called up to England's Under-19s squad for the first time, having previously played for younger age groups.

He made 13 appearances for the Reserves in 2010/11 and was a key performer as the U18s won the FA Youth Cup for the first time since 2003.

At the end of an excellent campaign, the midfield dynamo was named the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year, emulating the likes of Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Wes Brown and Danny Welbeck in picking up the award.
