Wanderers swooped to secure the services of Nigel Reo-Coker in July 2011 after the former England Under-21 captain had left his former club Aston Villa.

Bolton became Reo-Coker's fourth club of his professional career following spells with Wimbledon, West Ham United and Aston Villa.

Having graduated from Wimbledon's academy, he made 64 competitive appearances for the Dons before leaving for Upton Park in January 2004 for a fee of £500,000.

With West Ham, Reo-Coker started to establish himself as the player he is today and, indeed, he was made club captain by manager Alan Pardew.

In 2004/05, he helped the Hammers win promotion back to the Premier League via the play-offs and after one season back in the top-flight Reo-Coker moved to the Midlands, joining Aston Villa in a deal worth up to £8m.

Reo-Coker, who can also play at right-back as well as central midfield, played 123 games for the Villains in the space of three-and-a-half prior to joining Bolton Wanderers on a two-year contract.

At international level, the London-born man played 23 times for England Under-21s between 2003 and 2007.
