The Jamaica captain battled with a knee injury for the first six months of the 2010/11 season before returning to fitness after the turn of the year.
Gardner enjoyed a month-long loan spell at Preston as he gained his match sharpness before making his first Premier League appearance of the campaign at Fulham in April.
Gardner first came to attention at the World Cup in 1998, where he starred for the Reggae Boyz at their first ever appearance at a World Cup finals.
'Bibi' joined the club in the months later, arriving from Harbour View in a £1m deal, and has since become one of the most loyal servants in the club's history.
In 2007, Gardner's contributions earned him the Bolton Wanderers' Player of the Year award.
Other notable highlights include his goal in the 2001 Play-Off final against Preston North End and when he also found the net in the Allianz Arena against Bayern Munich during the club's 2007/08 UEFA Cup campaign.
Gardner now has more than 400 games under his belt in a Bolton shirt and could be set to accumulate even more should he accept the offer of a new contract at the Reebok.
