Tyrone Mears was re-united with Owen Coyle in July 2011 after agreeing a three-year deal with Bolton Wanderers.
The 28-year-old full-back had previously played under the Bolton manager at Burnley, where he had spent the previous two years and had been a virtual ever-present in the Clarets' defence.
Mears started his career with Manchester City before moving onto the Preston North End for £200,000, where he first came to prominence.
The Stockport-born man was a regular at Deepdale, playing under manager Billy Davies. In 2005, he was one match away from reaching the Premier League as the Lilywhites were edged out in the Championship play-off final by West Ham United.
But Mears was to fulfil an ambition of playing in the top-flight when West Ham approached Preston for his services just weeks after the play-off final when they made a bid of £1m.
Mears played only a handful of games with West Ham before rejoining Billy Davies at Derby County on loan in January 2007. That deal was eventually made permanent the following summer.
After playing in Derby's Premier League campaign in 2007/08, the right-back joined French giants Marseille on loan in September 2008.
However, Mears was to play only a handful of games for Marseille before moving back to Derby, from where Burnley secured his services ahead of their debut season in the Premier League in the summer of 2009.
Cruelly for Mears, his competitive Bolton Wanderers debut will have to be put back after he broke his leg in training on August 4 - just a week after completing his transfer to the Reebok Stadium.
